2013 Continuous Living Cover Events Report
Green Lands Blue Waters developed the Continuous Living Cover Events Database to track field days, workshops, and other educational events. The database will be regularly updated. As of April 30, 2013 it included 153 events from February 2010 onward.
Analysis and interpretation of the database are detailed in this report:
Green Lands Blue Waters has developed a Continuous Living Cover Events Database to track field days, workshops, and other educational events that deliver information directly to farmers about Continuous Living Cover practices. Event listings going back to February of 2010 were collected from online calendars and catalogs maintained by the Leopold Center at Iowa State University, Practical Farmers of Iowa, Land Stewardship Project, and the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Minnesota; as well as personal communication from Rural Advantage, Land Stewardship Project, and the Agricultural Watersheds Institute. Most of the 153 events collected from these sources took place in MN and IA, but some were in IL, SD, or WI. Summary of the data shows a steady increase in the number of CLC events per year; from 21 events in 2010 to 67 events in 2012, to 23 events just in January through April of 2013. Many of the events were offered through collaboration of two or more co-sponsors, and 100 different organizations showed some level of involvement in at least one event. There is potential to strengthen networks of collaboration and to increase University and agency involvement in CLC educational events.
