Map Use Instructions:

 

Basic operation

This map allows you to create customized maps based on data layers that you select. Choose from public lands, water bodies, roads, watersheds, land uses, and more.

 

Step 1 - Select the layers for your map

  • In the legend, click the box(es) to select the layer(s) you would like to view
    Note: Greyed out layers become visible as you zoom in.

  • If you want to see the Land Cover layers, you must click on the box next to "Land Cover," not the box next to "Land cover legend."

Step 2 - Select an area

  • Click on the Zoom-In icon zoom-in button to select
  • Move your cursor to the area of the state that you want to view
  • Click on the map to view the area

Pan Icon

Reposition the mapping area

Zoom out Icon

Zoom out to a larger map area

More Information Icon

Get information about specific points of interest
Note: not all sections of the map have information

Line Drawing Icon

Draw a line to measure distance between points. Click on the icon, then on the map on your starting point. Drag the line to the ending point, then double-click. The distance will appear in a pop-up box in the upper right corner of the map.

Polygon Drawing Icon

Draw a polygon to measure the area inside the shape. Click on the icon, then on the map on your starting point. Drag a line to the next point on the polygon and single-click. Repeat dragging the line and single-clicking as needed to create the shape. Double-click when finished; the area enclosed by the shape will appear in a pop-up box in the upper right corner of the map.


Tips

  • Click and drag to zoom to a specific area
  • Click on the small reference map (lower right) to recenter the map at that point
